The Newark Housing Authority is taking the necessary precautions to limit the exposure to the Coronavirus Pandemic - COVID-19. We are doing all that we can do to ensure the safety of staff, residents and the public.

At this time the administrative office is closed for walk-ins until further notice. All necessary contact with the office should take place by telephone calls between the hours of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM or by email Monday - Friday.

Dear Participants,
To assist the Newark Housing Authority’s program participants who are facing financial hardships as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis, NHA was made aware of rental assistance payments that may be available from the Newark Area Welfare Committee (NWAC) to assist NHA participating families affected by COVID-19.

The assistance with rental payments may be available to NHA participating families as a result of a shutdown, closure, layoff, reduced work hours or unpaid leave due to childcare or other issues arising as a result of the health crisis relating to the COVID- 19.

To be considered, NHA’s program participants must complete the attached form and provide documentation of employment status or income loss beginning March 10, 2020 or later that is attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The form and the documentation can be completed online, mailed to NHA or dropped off in our After Hours Drop Box.

Once the form and documentation are received, reviewed and approved, NHA will notify you. If you are approved the payment will be made directly to the landlord/property owner. This assistance may include utilities owed to the City of Newark.

Delaware State Housing Authority Housing Assistance Program

The DSHA and Delaware Governor John Carney recently announced a new program to provide emergency assistance to renters impacted by shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours, or unpaid leave due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

The Delaware Housing Assistance Program will provide eligible households up to $1,500 in assistance, with payments made directly to the property owner or utility company. Please review the income eligibility restrictions.
